My main criticism of current events system is that it is very hard to get into / onto, especailly for casual gamers or those not in the "known" hardcore pvp corps.
Also they can be very messy and hard to manage once they kick off and there are a lot of egos at work in all the events I've attended, all of which I think can make people very arsey and generally make the experience less pleasurable

Actually, another thing is that it is really hard to find things to do that are specifically "Roleplay"
As mentionned in blog, everyone is in essence RP'ing all the time. My personal hope would be that Factional Warfare is really well supported by Aurora events and lets people opt in to the Eve story and feel like they are taking part in the story of eve a bit more than is the case atm.

Aurora build a 1 man corp called something like: Freedom Fighter for Liberation of all Slaves (FFLS) (unimaginative, I know).
I send a mail to be listed as a supporter, FFLS cheeck my bio and see I have a good record with Minmatar and add me in the supporters files (an automated cheeck of my standings).
Next time there is a event regarding freeing slaves, protecting slaves, ecc., FFLS send a mail asking for support, something along tthe following lines:
FFLS is organizing a expedition, if you can bring a (combat ship/transport/mining ship) to the system XXX within 30 minutes were we will assemble our fleet. We think we will need your help for at least xxx time
This is what happens atm afaik. Just good luck getting your name onto that list. Ofc. if we had factional warfare, then you'd have yourself a nice list of all the corps and alliances and individuals who were aligned to each faction, so the job would be a lot easier

a LOT of MORE news too.
Ever considered splitting Events teams by region, or are they already? Be nice to have enough events and stuff going on to warrant "local" or "regional" news in addition to cluser-wide news

Apologies for necro, but felt I needed to add this in in light of recent events.
It seems that whole storylines for events, the so called "Arcs" are written in advance and in considerable detail.
Many players expect that their actions affect the stories, and that is part of the motivation for attending events. However, sometimes stuff just doesn't go according to script.
I'd suggest that AURORA avoid writing whole scripts in advance and instead have a general idea for where they want to end up, with players making the in between. Write only the next event and have branching paths dependant on current event outcome, some of which may never get used.
